"Nauset Light Lodge
and The Lodge of St. Andrew Bring Music to Young Women in Need"
The Nauset Light Lodge Masonic Angel Fund in
partnership with The Lodge of St. Andrew's "St. Andrew Fund" recently presented
$2,000 to fund a year's worth of individual music instruction for selected
students at the Latham School in Brewster, MA. The Latham School is a
residential facility that serves approximately forty young women ages eight to
twenty-two with various physical, emotional and developmental disorders.
Music instruction is important to these young ladies for several reasons.
Instrumental music instruction and practice helps with development of fine motor
skills and visual acuity. Voice instruction supports the existing speech therapy
programs in which many of these youngsters participate.
The Nauset Light Lodge Masonic Angel Fund serves pre-schools and private schools
in the towns of Orleans, Brewster and Eastham (Massachusetts). The relationship
that Nauset Light Lodge Masonic Angel Fund has established with the Latham
School is a fine exemplar of how Masonic Angel Funds should conduct their school
outreach. Time and again Nauset Light has made its benevolence available in just
the right amount, at just the right time to fulfill a critical need for the
residents of the Latham Centers.
Pictured are Ms. Carol Sullivan (Latham School's associate director) and Leland
Cobb (one of the Nauset Light MAF's trustees). Not pictured (because she was
taking the photo!) was Mrs. Virginia "Grace" Atkins. Mrs. Atkins, wife of MAF
trustee LeRoy Atkins, is primary outreach liaison between Nauset Light MAF and
the Latham School.
